Our Mission & Vision

The purpose and future guiding BBN's work across Minnesota.

Our Purpose & Direction

Black Business Network’s mission and vision work together to define our purpose and guide the long-term impact we seek to create. They reflect both why we exist and the future we are committed to building for Black-owned businesses and communities across Minnesota. Shaped by lived experience and community insight, our mission and vision are informed not only by organizational leadership, but by the realities faced by Black business owners themselves—many of whom serve on our board and help guide our work.

Our Mission

Black Business Network exists to unite and empower Black-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals across Minnesota through community support, economic development, and advocacy—creating opportunities for connection, collaboration, and long-term success.

Black Business Network exists to unite and empower Black-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals across Minnesota through community support, economic development, and advocacy.

We recognize that Black-owned businesses often face systemic barriers to growth, visibility, and sustainability. Our mission is rooted in addressing these challenges by creating intentional opportunities for connection, collaboration, and shared learning that center Black business voices.

Through relationship-driven support and community-led approaches, BBN works to ensure Black-owned businesses are not navigating growth in isolation, but are supported by a network designed to foster long-term success.

Our Vision

We envision a thriving, sustainable ecosystem where Black-owned businesses across Minnesota have equitable access to resources, visibility, and community-driven support that fosters growth, generational wealth, and economic equity.

How BBN Lives Its Mission

Hands-On Support

We work directly with business owners through practical guidance, one-on-one engagement, and learning opportunities designed to meet businesses where they are and support their next stage of growth.

Community Led

We create intentional spaces for connection through events, roundtables, and gatherings that encourage collaboration, shared learning, and relationship-building across Minnesota’s Black business community.

Advocacy Through Visibility

We amplify Black-owned businesses by increasing visibility, elevating business voices, and supporting efforts that connect entrepreneurs to broader economic and policy conversations.

Access to Resources & Knowledge

We help connect business owners to relevant tools, information, and opportunities that support informed decision-making, sustainability, and long-term success.

Shared Leadership

BBN is guided by leaders who are active business owners themselves. With the majority of our board directly engaged in business, our work is informed by firsthand experience, shared challenges, and a deep understanding of what Black-owned businesses need to succeed.
